Telesitters
In our previous blog, we have talked about different fall prevention solutions. While we looked in to vision-based and pressure-based solutions, we did not do a deep dive into telesitters, which is another fall prevention solution.
Telesitting is a fall prevention solution which is an alternative to sitters that watch over patients constantly. Sitters are usually very costly for healthcare facilities and often require more staff. Telesitting companies have a product with camera that watches over patients and usually requires only one person to do the job instead of one sitter per room. With telesitting, one person can watch over 40 or more patients at a time, making it much more efficient and cost-effective. Below you can see an example of a telesitter product.
In cases where Telesitters are used for fall prevention or other health concerns, the telesitter watching over the patient gets an alert when an adverse event happens. Then the telesitter would notify the nurse call system and a nurse would immediately attend the room.
One downside to telesitters is that it could possibly take longer for a nurse to attend a room compared to vision-based solutions where a nurse gets notified directly from the sensor software. A telesitter might miss an event happening in a room since they watch over multiple rooms at once.
Overall, telesitters are widely used by healthcare facilities and is a cost-effective and efficient fall-prevention solution.
