Tips to prevent falls in seniors

In today's blog, we will be talking about some tips and recommendations on how to prevent falls in seniors, especially if they are living independently.

Falls are most common in senior members of our population, and often people can be especially concerned if themselves or their loved ones might have a risk of falling due to age. Falls might cause serious injuries or even death, so I would like to inform about some tips on how to prevent falls if you are concerned about falling.

    1. Check with your doctor

My first recommendation before getting into other tips is to initially make an appointment with your     doctor to get through some tests to figure out if you or your loved one is in the risk group of falling.        This can guide you in the right direction to rule out any risks or to keep in mind if you need to take         certain actions to prevent from falling.

    2. Stay Active

Before getting into this tip, make sure to check with your doctor to see if it's safe for you to go on        daily walks or other physical activities that can keep you active. Physical activities can go a long way     to improve both physical and cognitive health. Physical activity is not only good for the body but it        can also keep your mind sharp as well, which can contribute to stronger reflexes and response times     when needed. It can definitely help with other health concerns as well if you are cleared from your        doctor.

    3. Redesign Your House

This step is specifically important because any obstacles that might get in your way can definitely        increase your risk of falling. Make sure to keep your house clutter free and change placement of            certain furniture if they can get in the way, especially at night time. Use anti-slip mats or rugs in            your bathroom and tub as well, this can help to avoid and slips and falls when taking a shower. Make     sure to use adequate lighting in your house to be able to see where you are walking and to avoid any     obstacles that might get in your way.

These are some tips to help prevent falls in seniors especially if they are living independently, while it may not be the whole solution to the fall problem, these can definitely help without splurging lots of money on fall prevention solutions. However, your health is the most important thing, so if you have a high risk of falling, make sure to look into more in-depth solutions to prevent falls.
